The IDD changes how insurance intermediaries operate across the borders of the EU Member States. And, in a September 2018 Decision of its Board of Supervisors on the cooperation of national competent authorities with regard to the IDD (replacing the Luxembourg protocol), EIOPA partly clarifies when an intermediary is likely to be pursuing cross-border activities (i.e. the triggering element).
Based on its own continuous work on this topic, BIPAR appreciates its importance for insurance intermediaries in the EU. In order to provide insurance intermediaries with updated and practical information, BIPAR commissioned the Brussels office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP to draw up a handbook on Cross-Border Insurance Distribution by Insurance Intermediaries in the EU.
This document is mainly focused on distribution of non-life insurance.
